It's Week Two (of 3) of New Original Works (NOW) Fest at REDCAT, CalArts' innovative performance space tucked in the bottom corner of Disney Concert Hall. Thurs 8/6 through Sat 8/8, Stina Ahlberg intertwines Asia and Scandinavia through theatrical dance, Mint Park and Hee-Eun Jeong's jarringly depict cultures of fashion and film, and Robert Cucuzza sets surrealist artists' sexist remarks to gypsy jazz in Circle Jerk.
A grandmother, mother, and daughter's artworks come together in one matriarchal show, Let Power Take A Female Form. See it before it closes onSaturday 8/8 at The Box.
Deeper in the Arts District, Hammock Gallery opens Blossomworld on Sunday 8/9 4-7pm, a playful installation by Dan Gunn and Karolina Gnatowski, reuniting the two artists as one "Gunnatowski".
Roy Choi's food culture and food justice variety show, To Live and Dine in L.A.: A Live Mixtape brings beats, snacks, and stories to the Regent on Sunday 8/9 7pm. The same-name menu-based history exhibit is still showing at the Central Library.
Some weeks it's great and some weeks it's just alright, but Jazz Night at The Falls is our favorite tradition nonetheless, Monday nights 9pm-1am. Matthew Yeakley leads the weekly open-invite jam sesh, plus there's always a good drink special.
